Spinach Blueberry Smoothie
This recipe for a Spinach Blueberry Smoothie, contributed by Leisa Cockayne of Make Me Sugar Free, is recommended as a healthy meal for your body and your skin. Blueberries are a top choice for foods which are antioxidant — they are ripe with carotenoids, flavonoids and other antioxidant compounds including vitamins A, C and E. The little blueberry also contains phosphorus, selenium and zinc – it really is a powerhouse of a berry!
And spinach, Leisa says “Where do I start? Spinach is high in niacin and zinc, as well as protein, fiber, vitamins A, C, E and K, thiamin, vitamin B6, folate, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, and manganese. Both of these combined double up on your Vitamin A, which is important at replenishing your skin cells and rebuilding collagen for a healthy looking complexion.”
Leisa points out that eating spinach and blueberries will have the precise opposite effect on your skin as does sugar — which breaks down collagen and elastin creating premature aging. Read more about this here: Does Sugar Make You Look Older.
