This is where Unicorns throw parties and have My Big Fat Unicorn Wedding Showers. LOTS of bright colors and a whipped cream on steroids "theme" -- like a Disney Toon Town? Rooms are wacky and fun but not 5 star. There is actually a fair amount of things to do on the grounds, including trail hiking, horseback riding, bike rentals, a good swimming pool with bar, the day spa, and nice lounge and restaurant.
It's a fun place with heated pools, bar, gym, bakery, steakhouse, spa, and some other things. The overall quality of everything is very good but not "international hotel chain level." If you're young or young at heart, this hotel is for you.
My wife and I stayed for two nights after postponing for a year due to the pandemic. We spent time at the pool bar, had some spa treatments, had breakfast at the Copper Café, and had dinner at the Steak House.
Whimsy, hype and price aside, this is basically a 3-star hotel because it lacked some basic amenities, such as a refrigerator in the room. It could also use a refresh on the HVAC and TVs for the room.
SLO is about 5-minutes away. If you're not feeling the food or drinks at the on-site restaurants. You're still in a prime location to check out the town and countryside full of wineries.
Thanks to the wonderful experience we had at the spa, I bumped this up to 4 stars.
