I was waiting so long for my little getaway and it was truly disappointing. I booked 3 night stay (with 1 spa day) and planned to shop on the 3rd day and try out restaurants.
The good:
The Spa was FANTASTIC. Wonderful massage and even better facial.
The bad:
Let’s start with the room - I paid for a river premiere elite room, that was described as a bathroom with heated floors-nice view, roomy space. Well the view was nice but no heated flooring in the bathroom, Jacuzzi didn’t work, the charcuterie tray I ordered was stale, the room was dirty - dead River bugs all over the patio windows, screen door was broken and door not flush with the frame so cold air was coming through. Spiderwebs everywhere. The couch had m&m wrappers that fell out when I sat on it, so you know it wasn’t cleaned. The bed had a very (old musty) unpleasant oder. Rooms are very old, tired and dated.
Overall for the price this was no Bueno. The manager on duty in the evening (John) was fantastic. He comped my massage and tried to make it right, however I couldn’t make the place work for me. The A.M. manager was terrible. She kept talking over me and said absolutely no refunds (told me to read the fine print) after I stated everything above and told her my stay was terrible. So be mindful they charged me 1000.00 for 3 nights. I stayed 1 and no refunds. Unreal.
Needless to say I ended my stay 2 days early and couldn’t wait to get home to a clean house!
I do not recommend and I won’t ever go back. The Spa is wonderful and I recommend it, highly.
Edit: thankfully when I checked out I was only charged for the one night-so the A.M. manager who told me absolutely no refunds was incorrect. STILL 350.00 for a very bad experience!
My wife and I received a couples package to stay here for our birthdays. Everything about our stay was wonderful. Our package included massages at the spa, and it was terrific. The spa staff were outstanding. The rooms are quaint and clean with great views of the river. Every single member of the staff were a joy to deal with. Everyone working here is genuinely nice. The restaurant on site is wonderful too (I'll review that on its own on Google as this is a spa site.) We will definitely return.
Perfect location overlooking the Fox River. Classic, old hotel with charm. It was difficult to tell where the hotel entrance was. We parked across the street (free, ample parking) and walked to hotel but couldn't tell where to enter. We finally entered via the Spa which was entirely on opposite end from the actual entrance and registration desk. Perhaps we missed a sign somewhere. Loved the prints and other artwork adorning the halls. Our queen room was large enough and included a table for 2, as well as sofa. Mini bar was well stocked. The bed was truly comfortable, consider 5 to a full night's sleep.... and then some. Almost missed the continental breakfast in lobby (just usual fare). The bar serves strong drinks, wasn't long before a nap was necessary. The Atwater is a very nice restaurant located in the hotel but we didn't try it. Reportedly, it is excellent. Highly recommend a stay at Herrington. Next time, we'll have to try the spa.
