The Hammam is an Arabic bath-house culture that dates back to the early 13th Century Turkish Ottoman empire. Spreading to North Africa, the particular practice of body purification and cleansing in a Hammam is little changed today. Families as a whole, with father, mother and their children, and often with their friends, enjoy the bathing ritual regularly on a weekly basis. The Hammam Spa is a gathering place, to relax, socialise and to chat, build connections, even to do business, and to celebrate life events like bridal parties, baby showers and birthdays. It is a way of life. This very important social element in the Hammam has remained largely unchanged to this day.
In Malaysia, we have South East Asia’s first Hammam at our door-step. Opened in 2005, Hammam in Bangsar, is a traditional Moroccan version, complete with Moroccan artisan hand work of carved cedar doors, intricate mosaics, copper lamps, and zelig fountains, with Moroccan therapists and spa treatments using traditional ancient Moroccan beauty recipes. Our second Hammam branch opened in Publika Mall in 2013.
