Arrived at the Spa and waited 15 minutes to check in because the guest in front of us had an issue with the spa mixing up her appointments. Not a great start, but hoping ours would be better. Changed into robes and sat in the waiting area.
Our appointments were scheduled at 10:00 am and my friend was promptly called for her treatment. I continued to sit in my robe waiting to be called to start the 50 minute massage that was booked. At 10:40, a spa employee came into the waiting area and asked if there was anyone by my name waiting. Of course the 50 minute appointment is already 40 minutes late starting.
The main issue with this is my friend's massage was almost over -- and we had a wine tasting booked for 1:00 pm.
The manager offered for me to come back at a later time for a complimentary massage, but at this point the experience was ruined. The idea that my friend and I would enjoy an hour after the massage at the spa relaxing together was no longer an option and to come back later would have made me have to reschedule my day.
The manager offered the explanation that my appointment was canceled by mistake. She was not overly concerned that the complete experience was ruined, and it was only after I basically demanded something for my lost time and experience that she offered to comp my friend's massage. Obviously, this isn’t an isolated incident as there was the very upset guest who was having the same issue when we were checking in.
There are some things you just can’t make right. This overnight girls trip was well planned by us and something we had been looking forward to.
If your experience, time and money are important to you, then I would choose another destination.
I brought my Husband here for his birthday.
The Good:
The resort is beautiful.
We did the wine tasting on Saturday and it was totally worth it.
Friday night we had Dinner at Marc, service was great, and food was good. You must try the Brussel Sprouts if you go.
The Spa - we had a couple’s massage at the spa as well.
The Massage therapist was super nice, and we really enjoy this.
The Not So Good:
The lady who checked me in told me that breakfast was included in our stay. After being told this my husband and I ate breakfast there both mornings. While checking out I noticed that I was charged for breakfast. When I brought this to the attention of lady checking me out, she really wanted to argue about it.
She eventually said let me see if the person who check you in was new. She comes back and never told me if the lady was new or not but took off breakfast for ONE day (not two) without an explanation or apology. That's That.
I’m not sure why she as upset with me for bringing this to her attention, but her attitude was not pleasant. Never apologized or anything.
While she was in the back there was another lady at the front desk who was super sweet about it and told me not to worry this was an easy fix.
Also there was nowhere to get food after 10pm on the resort. Being that this was a resort and you're not typically leaving the grounds, that was strange to me -- guests get hungry at all hours.
Summary
Overall if someone invited me or took me to go back I would, but if I never went back again I’d be ok with that as well. Plus, the price of the place (rooms, food) and the service offered does not match.
"Thank you for providing your feedback. We are deeply saddened to hear that the issues you experienced at our Front Desk negatively affected your stay. Please accept our sincerest apologies for the confusion regarding breakfast, and the service you received when trying to correct your final bill. This level of service is unacceptable at our hotel and please be assured that we will be addressing this situation with our team to ensure it does not happen again. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and recommendations with us and your fellow travelers. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and demonstrate the high level of service we normally provide." -- The Chateau Elan Team
Chateau Elan is a local getaway that me and husband adore! We love to sample all of the amazing wine, and enjoy a couples massage from time to time. I highly recommend this for a date night to all my friends.
This year, I decided that the holiday season was absolutely NOT going to be a stress-fest for me. So, immediately prior to Thanksgiving in November 2002, I signed up for a four-day, three-night stay at the Chateau Elan in Georgia.
The special included in excess of a dozen spa services over the period, accommodations, meals, taxes and gratuities. This was my first time at a “stay” spa. What a wonderful experience!
The staff was friendly and unruffled by special requests, the rooms were spacious and beautiful, the food was tasty and pleasing to the eye. I had access to the full facilities at the spa, and participated in stretching and yoga classes, had a comprehensive fitness evaluation, and enjoyed relaxing in the whirlpool that overlooked the grounds, which included a pond.
I loved the waiting area for spa services (the staff was very prompt with the appointments) which included a “quiet room” featuring some VERY comfortable chaises, soft music, and a view of the woods.
The facility offered shuttle service to the adjoining inn and winery, which I used sparingly since I enjoyed walking (I was lucky, the weather was great!) on the grounds, which include a nice nature trail. There was also a daily complementary shuttle to shopping areas, but I didn’t want to leave the grounds myself.
All in all, I was VERY pleased and will return whenever time and budget permits. There’s nothing better than sleeping late, eating breakfast in a comfy spa robe, and getting pampered all day!
