Golden Milk Overnight Soaked Oats
Golden Milk is a wonderful, creamy, and nutritious warm beverage that features turmeric, spices and honey. Amanda Bloom a registered nurse for Kaiser Permanente, enjoyed Golden Milk Ice Cream in a craft shop near her home, and set about creating this flavor profile in overnight soaked oats, for a nutritious breakfast. The result is this recipe for Golden Milk Overnight Oats, one of the most popular featured in 2019, by Kaiser Thrive.
Ingredients
Golden Milk (Yields 2 cups; You'll Use 1/2 cup for the Oats; Reserve the Remainder)
- 2 cups milk - your choice
- ¾ teaspoons turmeric
- 2 tablespoons honey
- ½ teaspoon powdered ginger
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- Few Grinds Fresh Pepper
Overnight Oats
- ½ cup old fashioned rolled oats - do not use Instant
- ½ cup golden milk - from prepared recipe shown above
- ½ cup mango - fresh or frozen, chopped and divided
- ¼ cup Greek Yogurt - Fat Free, Plain
- 1 pinch sea salt
- 8 whole almonds - chopped
- 2 teaspoons coconut flakes - unsweetened
Instructions
Golden Milk
- Place milk in small sauce pan and add all Golden Milk ingredients.
- Heat on medium until it comes to a simmer, stir occasionally.
- Let simmer a couple of minutes while whisking slowly; it will get frothy.
- Set aside and let cool. You'll use 1/2 cup for the oat recipe, and reserve the rest to enjoy as a beverage (heated).
Overnight Oats
- Mix together uncooked oats, golden milk, 1/4 cup of the mango, yogurt, and salt in a mason or similar type jar.
- Stir well and refrigerate overnight.
- In the morning, add to a serving dish and top with almonds, the remaining 1/4 cup of mango, and coconut flakes.
