Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch
 |
Guest Review by Christine W., Submitted August 2009
This was my first visit to the Spa Avania at the Hyatt Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale. We stayed in the resort for one week at the beginning of August and I chose to take advantage of the Spa facilities while my daughter was at Camp. We were part of the Regency Club which meant that we had access to all Spa Amenities during
our stay. The Spa is beautifully appointed, very clean and serene. I took advantage of the relaxation, steam and sauna rooms before my Avania Pedicure. The pedicurist was very competent, courteous and friendly. The pedicure room had a very minimalist, very Asian feel and the music playing in the background was pleasant but not distracting. I was quite pampered in my
white cushy bathrobe and certainly never felt rushed by any of the staff. I can't wait to go back!

Guest Review by Christine Wynne, Submitted 2009
On a recent trip to Phoenix, Arizona I had the opportunity to visit Joya Spa in the InterContinental Montelucia Resort & Spa in Paradise Valley. While I’ve had the pleasure of being pampered at luxurious spas around the globe, Joya Spa takes luxury to a whole new level... .

Tree of Life
Patagonia, AZ
|
Reader Review by Arthur B., Submitted 2007
The Tree of life sells itself on spiritual consciousness and creating a 'youthening' with fasting on green juices. I did not have a medical examination and I was not weighed. I had asked management about my weight before the fast but he said I had nothing to worry about. In his book he does mention that no one should
do a fast if they are 10 pounds or ore under weight. By his calculation I should have weighed 160 pounds. I was 135 pounds when I started and when I finished I was 119 pounds.
The accommodation is box room, two single beds with only one electric portable heater that can not generate enough heat to keep the room warm. No private bathroom or toilet. The toilet and bathroom is communal, outside in the courtyard. A flashlight is needed to navigate as there is no outside
lighting. The showers were sometimes cold. The hot tub spa was full of stagnant water and filthy with algae. Mice and vermin were apparent around the accommodation too.
I had my house burgled in England during my stay, so my stay was cut short by 11 days. The cost was $5000. The tree of life does not give any refunds regardless of any reason. They ask for payment up front. My sister called from England on the last day of the fast to inform me that my house has
been burgled, the fridge, cooker, washing machine, bed, TV stolen and the kitchen and bathroom flooded causing the down stairs ceilings to collapse. I informed management of my bad news. He said. ‘You now have had a second fast. The water is a symbol of you flushing away toxins.’ His wife said with a smile, ‘This is a challenge to let it all go.’

Arizona Biltmore Resort, Phoenix, AZ
|
Reader Review by Payme F., Submitted 2007
I've never been anyplace like this before, and likely never will be lucky enough to visit any place like this again -- I was lucky enough to be part of a corporate group or this would have been completely out of my league. Because I
didn't pay for my room, I got to enjoy the first class spa. It's a one of kind resort oasis in the desert of Arizona, offering the most opulent luxury I've ever encountered. The heavy mystical spirit of the area, from years gone by, was palpable in the air. From the food, to the accommodations, to the close to a hundred different spa treatments
available, and just to the visual splendor of Wright's architecture, this is one of the places that are worth visiting just for the destination. Were it not for meetings in town, I'd have stayed on the grounds of my castle in the desert the entire time, lost in fantasy.

Arizona Biltmore Resort, Phoenix, AZ

Reader Review by Rachel R., Submitted 2003
The Biltmore Resort and Spa was the most wonderful hotel and spa experience I have had all year. I am fortunate enough to travel a lot, and although I'm not really a "warm climate" or "desert landscape" aficionado, this resort was splendid
in every respect, as were the spa services my husband and I received. We plan to recommend this facility to our daughter for her wedding in 2004.

Body & Soul
Scottsdale, AZ
|
Reader Review by Amanda S., Submitted September 2008
I should have canceled my appointments when I kept receiving calls from the spa asking if I could change my appointment time, because this clearly showed how disorganized they are. When I arrived, the front desk help didn't get me situated or put me in a robe -- my masseuse had to do it. After my massage I was suppose to get a
facial. I didn't know that I would have to wait an entire hour before the facial. When I complained, I learned it was the new owner who made my appointments. I felt if they didn't have the availability to schedule my treatments together, they should have been honest and said so up front -- I would have rebooked another day. Now, I will never go back.

The Lamar Everyday Spa, Scottsdale, AZ
|
Reader Review by Mary B., Submitted 2004
My entire experience at The Lamar starting with the able and courteous front desk staff to the many treatments I received was absolutely enjoyable, relaxing and soothing. The therapists were very talented with applying their technique. My only job was to rest, relax and receive. I highly recommend treating yourself to a day at The Lamar.

The Phoenician

Reader Review by John and Cory G., Submitted 2002
Thanks for your in-depth coverage of the Phoenician this year. My son and I visited and stayed long enough to play in the world-class tennis garden, soak up some sun, and enjoy a sports massage at the Centre for Well-Being. Excellent recommendation
for a true destination spa, which means I'll have to bring my wife. Thank you!

Mii Amo at Enchantment Resort, Sedona, AZ
|
Reader Review by Suzanne, Submitted 2005
Mii Amo is not only the best in my eyes, but rated the best four-star destination spa in the U.S. They live up to their reputation with excellent service in all areas. Everyone looks for different things when they are on a trip and if you are on a spiritual journey, Mii Amo is definitely the place for you. Organic meals, Ayurvedic treatments, beautiful Red Rocks, and
a staff that goes above and beyond the call of duty. I have been to Mii Amo several times and it gets better and better every time.

Mii Amo at Enchantment Resort, Sedona, AZ
|
Reader Review by Peter A., Submitted 2004
It is sad to think that a spa so beautiful and gracious in their welcoming could have overlooked the basic need for quiet when the spa was constructed. All the treatment rooms echo with sound from either another treatment room (hearing a discussion between therapist and client) or the sound of doors closing and opening
and lastly a basic design flaw--hearing the steam room "pipes" blast through the walls. I've had three treatments so far and all three therapists have agreed that this is a major flaw in an otherwise calm environment. The management is aware of this and it will probably cost a great deal to put in soundproofing. Please bear in mind, however, that
the staff is great and accommodating to your needs. The problem is structural to the building.

Reader Review by Laura T., Submitted 2001
This is the most wonderful place in the world! Sedona has always been a special place for me. I visited Mii Amo, a destination spa at the Enchantment Resort, this past April (2001). It was truly a magical experience! The staff was wonderful, as were the treatments and the food! I never knew that healthy food could taste so good! I can't wait to go back.

Canyon Ranch
Tucson, AZ
|
Reader Review by Marcia O., Submitted December 2004
Canyon Ranch is a wonderful spa in an exquisite setting on the Sonora Desert with nearby canyons for hiking, climbing, bike riding and power walking. There is no end to the options for: exercise, yoga, stress management, fitness evaluations and professional consultations. The meals were gourmet, artfully prepared and nutritious; an expertly trained nutritionist was available
to assist in meal selections for the diet challenged. The staff was prompt, courteous and efficient. There are two whirlpool spas and a cold dip in the clothes-optional women's area and three outdoor pools for leisure and exercise. Regrettably, the water is treated with chemicals, rather than a state of-the-art ozone generator. Likewise, the skin, hair and nail products
are laden with chemicals and there are no organic options in the treatment facilities. My daughter-in-law guest is chemically sensitive and could not take advantage of any facial, skin or beauty treatments. However, the general experience at Canyon Ranch is truly unique with unlimited possibilities to attain greater fitness and wellness in a supportive, nourishing environment.
Not one staff interaction was negative or critical; no one was pushing products or services for purchase. The fixed rate for room and board included many extras which were lavishly delivered and simple to schedule. I would return, but my daughter-in-law will need an alternative spa for which I will continue to search, so that I can again gift her with a relaxing vacation.
